Programs for Girl and Boy Scouts

Scout Programs, Badges, & Service Hours

The South Shore YMCA Nature Center offers engaging programs for Girls Scouts of the USA and Scouting America. All programs are hands-on, educational, and may include a combination of the following:

  • Visits to the Ecozone, Greenhouse, Children’s Garden, Hawk & Owl Aviaries, and Chicken Coop
  • Nature walks
  • Crafts
  • Science experiments
  • Nature games

Our certified Merit Badge Counselors offer a range of nature-oriented badges, along with private programs and tours for troops seeking a customized experience. Additionally, we provide opportunities for troops looking to complete service hours.

Badge Offerings

We can help your Scout earn a variety of nature-related merit badges! Reach out to let us know which badge your troop is working towards.

Scouting America: Popular badges include Sustainability*, Nature, Geology, Environmental Science*, Soil and Water Conservation, Reptile and Amphibian Study, Insect Study, Oceanography, and Mammal Study. * = Required for Eagle Scout.

Girl Scouts: Popular badges include Shapes in Nature, Numbers in Nature, Design in Nature, Eco Learner/Friend, Outdoor Art Maker/Creator, Animal Habitat, and Flowers.

Eagle Scout Projects

Scouts interested in completing their Eagle Scout project at the Nature Center are welcome to reach out. To begin the process, please provide your project idea, including a brief description, timeline, and any resources or support you may need. Our team will work with you to ensure the project aligns with both your goals and the Nature Center’s mission.
