Greenhouse Growing 101 – Coes Greenhouse Tour – Tues, February 11 1:00-2:00pm
Join us for an engaging tour of Coes Greenhouse with our knowledgeable greenhouse caretaker! Discover the fascinating world of plants, including how to care for houseplants, orchids, bromeliads, carnivorous plants, and more. Learn the basics of greenhouse growing and maintenance.
Simple Seed Starting – Tues, March 4th 1:00-2:00pm
Join us for a seed sowing workshop where you’ll learn techniques for successfully starting a variety of vegetables and annuals. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced gardener, this hands-on session will help you get a jump start on your growing season.
Perennial Division – Sat, April 26th 10:00-11:00am
Join us for a hands-on workshop focused on perennial division in the Nature Center’s pollinator garden! Participants will learn the best techniques to thin overgrown plants while helping to maintain the garden’s health and beauty. You’ll have the opportunity to take home some divided perennials to enhance your own garden and support local pollinators! The workshop will be held rain or shine, so dress for the weather; some activities may be moved indoors if necessary.
Butterfly Host Plants – Sat, May 24th 10:00-11:00am
Participants will learn about the importance of butterfly host plants and how to create a welcoming habitat for these beautiful pollinators. We’ll take a guided garden visit to learn how to cultivate a butterfly-friendly environment!
Collecting and Saving Native Plant Seeds – Sat, October 4th 10:00-11:00am
In this final workshop, we’ll learn techniques for collecting and saving native plant seeds from the Nature Center’s gardens. We’ll discuss the ecological benefits of these plants and the importance of preserving native flora for local wildlife. You will take home seeds such as joe pye weed and milkweed to cultivate in your own garden!
