Program Themes

Core: Fur, Feathers and Ferns

We will take a hike together and seek six signs that animals enjoy the habitat in which we walk, using magnifiers to examine plants up close and binoculars to see distant creatures. We will discuss an animal that has gone extinct in the last 100 years, and then visit our nature center to meet some living animals and learn about the challenges they face in the wild. In our garden, we will discuss composting and the way it helps our environment, and will plant our own herbs or vegetables.

Elective: Super Science

Scientists! We will discuss the scientific process and dive into the world of static electricity, conducting several experiments. We will test our skills and knowledge during a sink-or-float experiment, and will then try out some water coloring experiments. We promise you this one will get slippery!

*Maple Sugaring (only offered late winter/early spring).

If it’s early spring, hopefully the sap is flowing! We will take a hike to a sugar maple tree on the trails of the Science Center, tap a tree and watch the sap start to flow. We will explore the process of maple sugaring and even enjoy some sweet rewards at the end of the trail!
