SOUTH SHORE YMCA NATURAL SCIENCE CENTER

The Final Week of Camp

Posted: Aug. 21, 2014

???????????????????????????????

Despite the fact that summer is officially over – at least in the minds of the camp staff at the Science Center, for summer is just not the same when you’re not surrounded with dozens of young people looking to you for outdoors education – discoveries are still being made. We found salamanders, young ones, under logs on the trail.

???????????????????????????????

We also this week found young green frogs, not to mention a few toads and young garter snakes.

??????????????????????????

And we found that paper wasps have bogarted our bird box! This box in particular was made by third grade Science Challenge students last spring. After the season is done, we will see what can be done with it, but for now, for the rest of camp, we will steer clear. It’s been one fun summer!
