Our Mobile Science Fleet
The Science Center’s education programs can come to you!
Thanks to the generosity of the Sullivan Family, Protectowire, and Batelle, the South Shore Natural Science Center has two vans – Flora and Fauna – stocked with all of the educational materials needed for any natural science program we teach.
These vans allow us to:
- Carry our live animals, our mounts and other educational materials directly to schools, scout programs and other facilities and events;
- Drive directly to off-school sites, such as local ponds, conservation lands;
- Visit and interpret habitats diverse from our woods, vernal pools, fields and Jacobs Pond with learners of all ages; and
- Expand access to open space and nature education to students who, for whatever reason, cannot travel to our own conservation land in Norwell.
Flora and Fauna are also designed to be teaching backgrounds, for display at Touch-a-Truck events and other gatherings. Ask us to break out the magnets! We have imagery of other creatures that live in the habitats depicted on the vans that further explain the diversity of life within these worlds.
