It’s Your Planet: Camper (Overnight)
As a team, Juniors will plan their overnight adventure with the naturalists and volunteers at the Science Center. We will practice a new camping skill by building a campfire and then find our inner camp chefs by making s’mores or other treats. We will explore the great outdoors through either an owl prowl, following the Leave No Trace guidelines or taking a forest forensics foray into the woods, and have some great nighttime fun!
It’s Your Planet: Gardener
Visiting our Children’s Garden, we will consider why it is laid out the way it is. What thoughts went into its design? We will consider all the needs of a plant and figure out how to choose plants for our own gardens. We will experiment with seeds and plant our own gardens.
It’s Your Planet: Detective (Nature Division)
Time for some sleuthing! In preparation for our mystery, we will practice some of our detective skills. We will practice our powers of observation, communicate in Morse code and try out some forest forensics. When we think we are ready, we will dive into our natural mystery, and follow clues to figure out whodunit!
It’s Your Story: Animal Habitats
What better place to explore the world of wild animals than the Science Center! We will investigate the types of wildlife animals that inhabit the local grounds, explore one or more habitats and create an animal home. We will visit rare and endangered habitats and learn how to protect and care for them.
*Maple Sugaring (only offered late winter/early spring)
If it’s early spring, hopefully the sap is flowing! We will take a hike to a sugar maple tree on the trails of the Science Center, tap a tree and watch the sap start to flow. We will explore the process of maple sugaring and even enjoy some sweet rewards at the end of the trail!
