It’s Your Story: Night Owl (Overnight)
On our special nighttime visit to the Science Center we will explore the life of a Great Horned Owl, before setting out on a night hike, using all of our senses to explore the world around us. We will meet a naturalist who works at night on the trail, leading excursions to find owls and will visit the greenhouse to see a night-blooming flower. As we gaze at the night sky we will share nighttime legends from deep in our country’s past.
Legacy Badge: Trees
We will visit a sugar maple tree on the Science Center trails that is tapped for the sap to flow. We will walk through the woods and identify five other species of trees, and then make a craft out of materials from those trees. We will discuss and debate logging, clear-cutting and deforestation and prepare ourselves to plant a tree somewhere that is special to you.
*Maple Sugaring (only offered late winter/early spring)
If it’s early spring, hopefully the sap is flowing! We will take a hike to a sugar maple tree on the trails of the Science Center, tap a tree and watch the sap start to flow. We will explore the process of maple sugaring and even enjoy some sweet rewards at the end of the trail!
