Tigers

Program Themes

Core: Backyard Jungle

We will take a one-foot hike on a trail at the Science Center, listing all of the creatures we find living there. We will work together to discover two types of birds that live in our jungle, and then listen for two natural sounds that we hear. We will build a birdhouse and place it in our woods, and then prepare to plant a tree or a bush that will help the local birds.

Core: Tigers in the Wild

After preparing ourselves, we will take a short hike on the trails of the Science Center, following the guidelines of the Leave No Trace Principles for Kids. We will look for three different animals, plants or animal signs, as well as two types of trees. We will visit with two animals that live at the Science Center and write down two interesting things about each one in our Tiger handbooks.

Elective: Sky is the Limit (Evening program)

We will venture out into the night to look at the night sky through telescopes, learning how to focus our optics. We will create our own constellations and name them, then discuss scouts who have taken to the sky as astronauts! We will discuss two other jobs that are related to astronomy, the study of the stars.

*Maple Sugaring (only offered late winter/early spring)

If it’s early spring, hopefully the sap is flowing! We will take a hike to a sugar maple tree on the trails of the Science Center, tap a tree and watch the sap start to flow. We will explore the process of maple sugaring and even enjoy some sweet rewards at the end of the trail!
